"We had this wonderful Friday night with 10 to 12 people in the room, and I think I was the rabbi and cantor. The night still remains vividly in my memory. The spirit of prayer and reverence captivated us. Each person recited a prayer and we felt the words were spoken for the first time. As the candles flickered, each of us felt deeply the essence of our history and tradition. It was a rare experience for me, and one I shall always treasure."
--Maury Leibovitz, in “The Founding Years,” (KI’s 40th anniversary book)
Back in 1949, Maury Leibovitz gathered the few Jewish people he could find in Pacific Palisades to celebrate Shabbat. The following year, he and a handful of pioneering families founded the Jewish Community of Pacific Palisades (JCPP), with Maury as the synagogue's first president.
And so it began!
Over time, the JCPP evolved from a small shul into a thriving Jewish community of 1,000 families.
To commemorate this historic 65-year milestone, we are creating the very first KI yearbook, filled with photographs of each KI family and individual member, as well as beautiful photographs and anecdotes from every aspect of our synagogue life. This project will illustrate the power and growth of our community and serve as both a keepsake and an unburied time capsule.
This incredible undertaking is the main fundraiser for this landmark year, and our success depends on 100 percent member participation. Please click the link below to order your family or individual page; our commemorative yearbook would not be complete without you!
Through the participation of each family, we will sanctify the blessing of memory for the generations with us now and for those generations to come. Bless you for being part of our transformative tale.
